Family interaction and sibling dynamics have been known to contribute to a child’s
psychological and social development by providing the necessary social environment.
The present study tried to understand whether there is any significant difference between
undergraduate students with and without siblings on stress tolerance and life satisfaction,
to understand the gender difference of undergraduate students on the level of stress
tolerance and life satisfaction and to find out the relationship between the study variables.
The participants consist of 60 undergraduate students; 30 of them with siblings and 30
without siblings belong to the age group of 18-22 years. The instruments used in the
study were the Stress Tolerance Scale (1999) and the Life Satisfaction Scale(2015).
The data were analyzed using student t-test and Pearson’s correlation. The results
revealed no significant difference between the two groups in stress tolerance and life
satisfaction. However, a notable gender difference in life satisfaction was found. No
significant relationship between the two variables were found.
