Modernization has a profound impact on the public mindset. This development is seen
in evolving attitudes toward sex roles, female empowerment, and egalitarianism. In the
past, patriarchal norms constrained females to the home, restricting their involvement
in education, labour force, and societal activities. The present study explores the role
of modernization on the variable of attitude toward women. The study comprises 800
males selected from different districts of Haryana. Comprehensive Modernization
Inventory and Attitude Toward Women Scale Short Version were used to study the age
range 20-60 years. Results revealed that modernization has a significant and positive
correlation with attitudes toward women in all groups of males. Further, the younger
groups of males scored higher on modernization and attitude toward women as
compared to older males which means that the younger population has more liberal
views about females in terms of education, empowerment, and other socio-cultural
factors. Based on locality, younger urban males have slightly higher scores on
modernization than their rural counterparts. Further modernization is a significant
predictor of attitudes toward women among males.
