High-risk behavior among adolescents, such as drop-out from school, increase in
delinquent activities, etc., are a cause of concern in the present scenario. To facilitate
healthy channelization of energy in young years, the present study seeks to study the
impact of goal setting and self-regulation coaching-based intervention on adolescents’
development of purposefulness. The sample of 55 participants was chosen based on
their past academic records and teachers’ behavioral assessments. A within-group pre
and post-test design was employed to investigate the effect of a goal-setting and selfregulation coaching-based intervention on adolescents’ purpose in life. The purpose in
life dimension of Ryff’s scale measuring psychological well-being was selected to assess
purposefulness and was measured using a self-regulation questionnaire (Ryan &
Connell, 1989). Goal setting and self-regulation intervention were facilitated using goal
attainment scaling (Strokes). The results of this study provide promising evidence that
purposefulness among adolescents can be addressed using goal-setting and self regulation exercises.
