Educational Aspiration of Higher Secondary School Students of Nagaland State in Relation to their Perceived Parental Encouragement

Education plays a pivotal role and efforts should be rendered to educating every child
for the all-round-development and progress of the child which in turn will have a positive
role in the upliftment of the country. The present paper was carried out with the objective
of educational aspiration of higher secondary school students in Nagaland state in
relation to the perceived parental encouragement. A total of 652 higher secondary school
students (304 boys and 348 girls) participated in the study. The Stratified Random
Sampling Technique was used to select higher secondary school students of Nagaland
state. Educational Aspiration Scale (EAS) developed by Sharma, Chetna (2020) &
Parental Encouragement Scale (PES) developed by Kusum Agarwal (2019) were used
by the researchers. As a result, it was found that the higher secondary school students
fall under average level of educational aspiration (74.08%) and extremely high level of
Perceived Parental Encouragement (58.13%). The study found that there is a significant
difference in Educational Aspiration of boys and girls of higher secondary school students
whereas there is no significant difference in Perceived Parental Encouragement. The
study also observes that Educational Aspiration and Perceived Parental Encouragement
are positively correlated.
