Psychological Safety and Other Mental Health Outcomes in the Organizational Context: A Narrative Review

Over the last few decades, growing attention has been focused towards the well-being
of the workforce due to an increase in workplace stress, burnout, rapid technological
advancements and restructuring of work due to the covid-19 post-pandemic, thereby
leading the employees to expose in isolation, uncertainty and many more work
challenges which further stresses the need for supportive and psychologically safe at
their workplaces. This narrative review explores the relationship between psychological
safety and emotional well-being from the most relevant research that was published
between 2015 and 2025. The rigid database was sorted out and a total of 65 articles
were retrieved through the combined search strategy. After a thorough evaluation, 26
articles were selected after a detailed comprehensive review. Research in this domain
evolved from primarily focusing on stress, burnout and job demands to positive
psychology, psychological safety and digital work environments. On the basis of the
studies, it has been found out that psychologically safe environment contribute to
reduction in stress, burnout and emotional exhaustion. Furthermore, it also explores
how organizational culture, style of leadership and communication significantly shape
psychological safety which in turn have an impact on employee wellbeing outcomes
such as enhancing job satisfaction, engagement, resilience, reduction in burnout, etc.
The review also highlighted the gap between the existing literature and future research
implications. The review findings are discussed, focusing on how psychological safety
influence the well-being of employees at work settings
