Health-promoting behaviours (HPBs) are vital for overall health and well-being, offering
key benefits for both physical and mental health. Its significance has been recognized
in mitigating health threats like non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and underscored
in the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as the 2030 agenda for
sustainable development, making it a priority for individuals and nations worldwide. The
study aims to understand health-promoting behaviour from the perspectives of Temporal
Motivation Theory, incorporating important variables like future focus, trait
procrastination, and health consciousness. Data from a sample of 230 young adults
was analyzed using SPSS and the PROCESS macro for SPSS. The results indicate
that health consciousness serves as a mediator between future focus, trait
procrastination, and health-promoting behaviour. These findings contribute to the
theoretical understanding of health promotion through the lens of Temporal Motivation
Theory and highlight the status of individual-level health behaviour initiatives, the finding
of which can supplement broader health initiatives. It also offers valuable insights for
healthcare providers and public health practitioners in designing and implementing
effective health promotion strategies to enhance population health and well-being.
