This study examines the effect of social media on women’s empowerment through
structural equation modeling. Research indicates that social media enhances women’s
economic independence by providing access to financial services, entrepreneurial
opportunities, and income-generating activities. Additionally, it fosters legal awareness
by disseminating information on rights, policies and advocacy efforts. Social media
also strengthens women’s social identity by expanding networks, boosting self
perception, and increasing social capital. Studies from diverse regions—including
Indonesia, Jamaica, Brazil, Egypt, Pakistan, and Ghana—demonstrate that digital
platforms enable women to overcome traditional barriers, participate in economic
activities, and advocate for gender equality. The findings confirm that social media
significantly contributes to women’s empowerment by positively influencing economic
independence, legal awareness, and social identity.
