Evaluation of Patients’ Satisfaction with District Mental Health Services

 This study examined patient satisfaction with mental health services at the District
Mental Health Programme (DMHP) Thoubal, Manipur, and its association with
sociodemographic factors.: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted at the
DMHP Center of Thoubal District, Manipur. Total of 300 patients were selected through
purposive sampling from patients over 18 years of age who had received treatment for
at least three months, met the criteria and provided consent. A semi-structured proforma
and Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire-18 (PSQ-18) were used for data collection.
Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Studies Version 25. Overall
patient satisfaction was 90%. The highest mean score was for interpersonal manner
(M = 4.15), followed by time spent with doctors (M = 4.09), general satisfaction (M =
4.04), technical quality (M = 4.02), communication (M = 3.83), accessibility and
convenience (M = 3.80) and financial aspects (M = 3.69). Higher satisfaction was
associated with being female, having a primary education, being Hindu, living in a
nuclear family, having no family history of mental illness, and having medication use for
6-12 months. Patient satisfaction with the DMHP Thoubal in Manipur was high, reflecting
the programme’s focus on local social and cultural needs.
