The present study explored the techniques of cognitive behaviour therapy and play
therapy to manage aggression among preschoolers aged 3 to 5 years, with a focus of
how parenting style impacts this behaviour. The data was collected using the Parenting
Styles and Dimension Questionnaire by Robinson et al., and Child Behaviour Checklist
Preschool version by Achenbach and Rescorla from the 56 parents of the preschool
children through purposive sampling method. Mean, Standard Deviation, Paired Sample
and Independent ‘t’ test were used to analyze the data. The study findings indicate that
the authoritarian parenting style could suppress the development of empathy in children,
subsequently leads to the aggressive behaviour. The results of the study revealed that
the integrated therapy creates a positive feedback loop between parent behaviour and
childhood aggression. By incorporating CBT along with play therapy, the parents perceive
the positive parenting skills and learn the ways in responding to their children behaviours.
The study has significant practical implications for improving parenting practices and
reducing aggression among preschool childrens.
