The widespread use of the internet has become a common phenomenon today. Following
the COVID-19 pandemic, the internet has assumed a crucial role in school children’s
lives as they have shifted to online platforms. It can be widely seen in School-Going
Adolescents the internet can be beneficial, especially when it begins to dominate a
person’s thoughts, emotions, and actions leading to problematic internet use.
Additionally, alexithymia refers to the inability to understand and recognize one’s own
and other’s emotions. The study aims to investigate the relationship between Alexithymia
and Problematic Internet Use among School-Going Adolescents, as well as differences
in the level of alexithymia between male and female School-Going Adolescents. The
initial sample consisted of 170 School-Going Adolescents aged 16- 18 years, from
which 100 individuals were selected through a purposive sampling method. This included
50 male and 50 female School-Going Adolescents who scored more than 40 on the
Internet Addiction Test developed by Dr. Kimberly Young. The results depicted the
growing issue of problematic internet use among School-Going Adolescents and
identified factors that contribute to it. A significant gender difference was also implicated
in the study
