Academic stress is a prevalent issue among students at various educational levels,
significantly impacting their mental and physical well-being. Understanding the sources,
consequences, and coping mechanisms associated with academic stress is crucial
for developing effective interventions. This study aims to identify the primary factors of
academic stress in adolescents. A sample of 350 adolescents was taken and
Confirmatory Factor analysis was conducted using PLS SEM. The findings revealed
that major sources of academic stress include heavy workload, pressure from study,
high expectations from self, worry about grades and despondency. The effects of
academic stress manifested as anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, suicidal
thoughts and decreased academic performance. Academic stress is a multifaceted
issue that significantly affects students’ mental health and academic success
