The present study examined the relationship between academic self-efficacy, academic
stress, and locus of control among the students diagnosed with GAD and Non-GAD
students of Kolkata, 74 college young adult students (age range between 18-25 years)
of Kolkata were incorporated in the sample in which 37 clinical background students
(diagnosed and under treatment in Hospital) and other 37 non-clinical background
students were taken. A Stratified random sampling method was used. The tools used
were the General Health Questionnaire: GHQ28, the Academic Self-Efficacy Scale by
Abdul Gafoor and Muhammed Ashraf, the Academic Stress Scale for College Students
by Vikas S. Kamble, and Locus of Control: Pareek’s. The findings reveal a positive
correlation between academic self-efficacy and academic stress and a significant
negative correlation between the locus of control and academic stress and the locus of
control and academic self-efficacy. The findings also reveal a significant difference
between GAD and non-GAD students based on academic self-efficacy, academic stress,
and locus of control. The above findings bore important implications both in academic
and clinical settings.
