This study explores how gender and family structure influence English language
proficiency among secondary school students in Thoubal, Manipur. A descriptive
research design was used, with data collected from 366 students selected through
stratisfied random sampling. The English Language Proficiency Test (ELPT) was used
to assess their skills, and data were analyzed using independent sample t-tests to
determine differences in proficiency based on gender and family structure. According
to the finding, female students performed better than male students due to higher
motivation, rigorous study habits, and greater engagement in language activities.
Likewise, students from nuclear families scored higher than those from joint families.
This could be because they often receive more focused attention from their parents
and benefit from a quieter, more structured environment for studying
