Construction of Well-Being Scale for Secondary School Students

Well-being refers to a positive mental state and its plays a vital role in the holistic
development of students. In today’s highly competitive and stressful academic
environment, it is essential to assess students’ levels of well-being. The present study
was aimed to construct well-being scale for secondary school students. Initially, identified
the dimensions of well-being and then frame 91 items for measuring the well-being of
students with the help of thorough reading of the related literature. The prepared 91
items were revised carefully and then given to the subject experts for their valuable
suggestions and corrections to ensure its quality. After initial try-out and seeking the
opinion of the experts some of the items were reframed and modify. The remaining 77
items were ready for the item analysis. Item Analysis was done by calculating the ttest
for each of the 77 items. After the item analysis 40 items were retained and
selected for the final study. Reliability of the scale was found 0.82 using Cronbach’s
Alpha method. Face and content validity of the scale was determined on the basis of
opinion of the specialist. At the end percentile norms were developed to interpret the
well-being scores effectively
