Hardiness is a personality trait which is linked to maintaining good health and high
performance even in stressful situations. The study aimed to assess the association
between Cognitive Flexibility and Hardiness with the mediating role of Emotion
Regulation. The study recruited 330 participants from students who were currently in a
university in Bangalore through convenience sampling. The scales used in the study
were Dispositional Resilience Scale-15, A Brief Hardiness Scale (DRS-15), Cognitive
Flexibility Inventory (CFI) and Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale–18 (DERS-18).
SPSS was used for data analysis. The results of the study revealed that there is a
positive association between Cognitive Flexibility and Hardiness, a negative association
between difficulties in Emotion Regulation and Cognitive Flexibility, a negative
association between difficulties in Emotion Regulation and Hardiness. The current study
revealed a significant impact of Cognitive Flexibility and difficulties of Emotion Regulation
on Hardiness. Difficulties in Emotion Regulation have a partial mediating impact in the
relationship between Cognitive Flexibility and Hardiness. This means that individuals
who have increased Cognitive Flexibility have increased levels of Hardiness which is
partially mediated through difficulties in Emotion Regulation. This study contributes to
findings on real life situations which include initiating interventions and various workshops
that would focus on increasing Emotion Regulation and Cognitive Flexibility among
students in schools and universities
