The present study aimed to examine whether there is a gender difference in intelligence
and locus of control among high school students in Aizawl, Mizoram. It also aimed to
find out the relationship between Intelligence and Locus of Control. A total of 200 students
(N=200), consisting of 100 male high school students and 100 female high school
students participated in the study. Intelligence was measured using the G.C. Ahuja
Group Test of Intelligence (GGTI) by Ahuja, and locus of control was assessed using
Rotter’s Locus of Control Scale by Kumar & Srivastava. The administration of the
instruments was conducted with strict adherence to manuals of the tools employed
and the APA Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct. The results indicated that females
have higher intelligence and a more internal locus of control compared to males.
Pearson’s correlation analysis revealed a significant negative relationship between
intelligence and locus of control, which suggests that higher intelligence comes with a
more internal locus of control. This helps to identify how gender plays a role in cognitive
abilities and their perception of control over one’s life. Understanding these differences
and the relationship between intelligence and locus of control can help in formulating
suitable educational strategies and psychological interventions to support students in
their academic and personal developments.
