This study investigated gender differences in patience, forgiveness, and their associations
with affective variables among 350 university students in Bengaluru, India. Participants
completed measures assessing patience, forgiveness, positive and negative affect,
emotion regulation, and state-trait anxiety. Women scored significantly higher than
men on both patience and forgiveness. Patience correlated positively with positive
affect and negatively with negative affect, emotional suppression, and anxiety. Similarly,
forgiveness showed positive correlations with positive affect and cognitive reappraisal,
and negative correlations with negative affect, emotional suppression, and anxiety.
Regression analyses demonstrated that forgiveness significantly predicted affective
outcomes, while patience significantly predicted lower state and trait anxiety. These
findings suggest that patience and forgiveness are crucial psychological strengths that
foster emotional well-being and may act as protective factors against anxiety in young
adults
