The present study aims to find out the relationship between emotional abuse and its
dimensions with adjustment and its dimensions among Muslim and non-Muslim
adolescents. Emotional abuse is manipulating someone with emotionally abusive
tactics. The goal of emotional abuse is to terrorize, dominate, or isolate the victim.
Adjustment is a behavioral process in which a person maintains a balance among
many requirements at any given time. The sample of N=800 (400 Muslim adolescents
and 400 non-Muslim adolescents) has been taken from Aligarh (District in Uttar Pradesh,
India) and Kishanganj (District in Bihar, India) using a convenient sampling technique.
The researcher collected the data using the Emotional Abuse Scale and Revised
Adjustment Inventory. Stepwise multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the
data. The results revealed that three predictors, viz., rejection, corruption, and terrorizing,
came out as significant predictors of adjustment among Muslim adolescents, and two
predictors, viz., corruption and emotional abuse, were found to predict adjustment
among non-Muslim adolescents. Further results pertaining to dimensions of adjustment
are mentioned in the full manuscript.
