The ability to simplify mundane activities in the field of education can have a significant
impact on its users and the teaching fraternity through artificial intelligence. Though AI
is making a strong impact in the field of education, multiple challenges are faced by
educators relating to its use in teaching and research. The significance of this study is
to understand the impact anxiety has on teachers using AI. The study employs a
sample of 114 teachers (47 males and 67 females) from various colleges in Goa. The
Artificial Intelligence Anxiety Scale (AIAS) by Wang and Wang is used for the study.
The authors hypothesise a significant difference in AI anxiety among the teaching
fraternity based on their gender and subject expertise. Results indicate a significantly
higher level of AI anxiety among female teachers, and specifically, job replacement and
learning anxiety were found to be the highest. Additionally, significantly less AI anxiety
is seen among computer science teachers. The study has two main implications:
Firstly, it provides a meaningful insight into understanding the nature of anxiety
associated with the use of AI among teachers. Secondly, it helps plan training
programmes to address the main concerns and challenges faced by educators and
seek necessary interventions to reduce anxiety associated with the use of AI.
