This research explored teaching competency and self-esteem among science and
non-science (humanities and social science) teachers in secondary schools in Imphal
West district, Manipur. It aimed to assess the levels of these constructs and their
variations, as well as their relationship. A sample of 256 teachers was surveyed using
the General Teaching Competency Scale and the Self-Esteem Scale. Statistical analysis
of the data was performed using descriptive measures, t-tests, ANOVAs, and Pearson
correlations. Results revealed moderate levels of both teaching competency and self
esteem, with no significant differences between science and non-science teachers.
Additionally, the analysis showed no significant correlation between teaching competency
and self-esteem. These findings enhance our understanding of teacher competence
and self-esteem, highlighting that subject discipline does not significantly impact these
factors. The study offers valuable insights for future research on the links between
teacher competence.
