Suicide is the biproduct of suicidal ideation and it is often considered very crucial in
predicting and preventing future suicidal attempts. Personality traits, linked to specific
genes are often linked to ABO blood groups, which are also considered as crucial
marker of suicidal behaviours and thus highlighting the complex relationship between
blood types, personality, and mental health outcomes. The current paper proposes
that blood group may play an important role in personality traits and suicidal ideation of
the adolescents. For the present study, a total of 689 adolescents were selected from
Tripura, a small northeastern state of India. For collecting data, Suicidal Ideation
Questionnaire (senior high school version) by Reynolds (1988) and NEO- FFI (NEOFive Factor Inventory by Costa & McCrae, 2008) were used. Besides, a self-reporting
schedule was also used to gather information about the participants’ blood groups.
The necessary statistical analysis were done on IBM SPSS V25. Results revealed
that BG types were only significantly correlated to ‘O’ trait of personality. No significant
correlation was found in SI and BG types. However, SI was significantly correlated to
all the ‘P’ traits. Further difference between all the personality traits and suicidal ideation
were explored across all the ABO blood group (ABO blood grouping system)
