Test Anxiety as a Determinant Factor Effecting Executive Functioning in Science Education

This research paper aims to explore test anxiety and its relation to executive functions
and to understand its role in learning of different subjects and different concepts
particularly of science subject. Drawing upon the findings of empirical research conducted
between 2010 to 2024, this paper aims to discuss how test anxiety impacts various
aspects of executive functions which includes cognitive flexibility, working memory,
attention control and inhibitory control. The analyses of the findings suggested significant
correlations between test anxiety levels and impairments in executive functioning,
highlighting the importance of addressing test anxiety to optimize learning outcomes
in science education. Future implication: The insight gained about the relationship
between test anxiety and executive functions suggest that it is essential for revisiting
the existing the teaching practices and designing effective interventions to support
children’s academic success and psychological well-being
