Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most commonly occurring
neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood. Children with ADHD have impaired functioning
in academic, social, or occupational activities. In India, ADHD prevalence has been
reported in the range 1.6%- 17.9%. The disorder is known to affect 3%-5% of schoolaged children. To find the prevalence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
among school-going children and study its association with gender and screen time,
to study the association of screen time with ADHD subtypes and co-morbid conditions,
and to study the association of screen time with gender and age of children, a cross
sectional descriptive study was conducted using the Vanderbilt ADHD Diagnostic Rating
Scale (VADRS) and a Personal Information Proforma. The prevalence of ADHD was
2.7% (35/1303). There was a significant association between ADHD, Predominantly
Hyperactive/impulsive subtype (ADHD-H/I), Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), and
age of children with children’s screen time. ADHD was prevalent among school-going
children of the Kakching district. The present study is the first in the state, and the
findings imply the need for monitoring and limiting children’s screen time according to
their age.
