The present study aims to investigate the mediating role of dating violence victimization
between perceived social support and depressive symptoms and PTS symptoms.
Limited research has explored the potential mediating role of dating violence in the
relationship between child abuse, social support, and depression. The sample (N =
318) consists of women aged 18 – 25 from various cities in Punjab and Chandigarh.
The correlation results revealed that the scores of dating violence victimization were
positively correlated with depressive symptoms, PTS symptoms, and childhood
maltreatment. Perceived social support was negatively correlated with all variables in
the study mentioned above. Further mediation analysis revealed that the indirect effect
of perceived social support and childhood maltreatment through dating violence on
depression was not significant on PTS symptoms. The critical implications and
suggestions were discussed.
