Academic Stress among Undergraduate Students with respect to Gender, Type of Institution and Stream of Study

The research study was conducted to study the level of academic stress among
undergraduate students studying in science and arts stream in various government and
private colleges of Jaipur province in Rajasthan. For this purpose, 130 undergraduate
students studying from government and private colleges of Jaipur province were
randomly selected. The sample comprised of 70 male and 60 female students. Academic
Stress Scale developed by Poorva Jain and Neelam Dixit (2016) was used to study the
academic stress of undergraduate students. Results show that most of the undergraduate
students were found to have academic stress. 72% undergraduate students of various
government and private colleges were found to have high level of academic stress
while around 28% undergraduate students were having moderate level of academic
stress. It was also observed that none of the undergraduate students were having low
level of academic stress. It was also observed that male undergraduate students were
experiencing high stress as compared to female students. Similarly undergraduate
students of Government College were highly stressed than undergraduate students of
private colleges. Further, Science stream undergraduate students were also found to
be highly stressed as compared undergraduate students of Arts stream..
