This study explores the interconnection between locus of control, psychological
reactance, and subjective happiness in Indian undergraduate and postgraduate adults
aged 18 to 25. There were 268 participants in the study. This correlational study utilized
Lyubomirsky and Lepper’s Subjective Happiness Scale, Pettijohn’s Locus of Control
Scale, and Hong’s Psychological Reactance Scale. Findings indicate a positive
correlation between locus of control and subjective happiness (r = 0.46, p < 0.01),
while psychological reactance negatively correlate with subjective happiness (r = –
0.22, p < 0.01). A negative correlation is also noted between locus of control and
psychological reactance (r = -0.16, p < 0.05). Multiple regression analysis highlights
that 23% of subjective happiness can be predicted by locus of control (20%) and
psychological reactance (3%). The model is found to be significant (F= 39.36, p <
0.01). The results emphasize the importance of internal locus of control and reduced
psychological reactance in fostering subjective happiness among young adults
