Nomophobia is characterized by the extreme anxiety that individuals experience when
they are without their mobile phones. The objective of the research is to understand the
role of self-control on nomophobia among college students. The data was gathered
from 445 UG and PG students aged between 18 and 24. It was a descriptive survey
method. The Brief Self-Control Scale and the Nomophobia Questionnaire were used to
collect data. Pearson correlation coefficient and linear regression analysis were
employed for data analysis. The results of the study showed that self-control is
significantly negative predictor of nomophobia and there is a negative correlation between
nomophobia and self-control. Moreover, large majority of college students suffer from
some form of nomophobia, with 23.1% exhibiting severe symptoms, 69.0% moderate,
and 7.9% mild. Enhancing self-control will reduce the level of nomophobia among college
students. The research and its relative implications are discussed and suggestions for
the future research are enumerated.
