When we consider the case of parenting a child a disability and the challenges we
always focus on the mother. But it is very essential to study the fathers’ perspective of
parenting a child with a disability, focus here being on autism spectrum disorder,
intellectual disability, cerebral palsy and down syndrome. The present study focuses
on how Spiritual coping and depression in the fathers play a role. In the current study
differential ability and disability are used interchangeably. The sample consisted of 50
Fathers whose children have Autism Spectrum disorder, Intellectual Disability, Down
syndrome and cerebral palsy as per the Rights of Persons with Disability Act 2016.
The method of sampling used was Convenience Sampling. From the total population of
168 using Slovin’s Formula i.e. N/ (1+Ne)2, it can be said the sample size is 49 and 1
more has been added to round it off. The tools used in this study were Beck’s Depression
Inventory and Spiritual Coping Scale. The results indicated that there is a significant
inverse relationship at – .293 level of correlation significant at 0.05 levels. Hence, it can
be commented that having a relationship with a higher power, and belief. in prayer
showed a better coping mechanism with depression and preventing the onset of
depression
