Education plays a crucial role in cultivating moral development and a positive attitude
towards peace among students. The study presents a comparative picture of moral
development and peace attitudes between students of Vedic gurukuls and modern
schools. A total of 194 students aged 13–18 years were surveyed in Varanasi using the
Moral Development and Peace Attitude Scale, following a 2×2 factorial design.
Participants comprised 97 students each from Vedic and modern schools, selected
through stratified random sampling, considering diverse genders and socioeconomic
backgrounds. The study reveals that the education system and gender both play
significant roles when moral development and peace attitude are considered together.
The Vedic education system schools were found to be more successful to inculcate
peace attitude among their disciples in comparison to modern schools. It was also
found that female students were found to be more oriented towards peace attitude. The
study emphasizes the need of more researches on comparative education systems to
identify critical factors from both education systems that would help to inculcate peace
attitude and moral values in the students which leads to overall personality development
