The world population constitutes about a one-third population of children. Discipline
problem of children is becoming a matter of growing concern. The study aimed to
investigate whether there is any association between reported discipline problems in
school and the variables- behavioural problems, symptoms of ADHD and conduct
problems; and learning disability. It also aims at finding any significant difference based
on these variables between children, with discipline problems and those without discipline
problems. For the study objective, 60 children were selected (30 with discipline problems
and 30 without discipline problems). The quantitative scales used to measure the variables
mentioned are the Revised Behavior Problem Checklist, Diagnostic Test of ADHD, and
SLD: Comprehensive Diagnostic Battery. After collecting the data, mean, standard
deviation (SD), Chi-square, correlation coefficient, and t-test of mean difference were
computed. The findings indicated that there was a significant association between
discipline problems reported in school, behaviour problems, symptoms of ADHD, and
conduct disorder. Based on these variables, an important difference was also observed
between children with and without discipline problems. It can be concluded that the
discipline problem is only what is apparent. A myriad of issues can lie under the blanket
of reported discipline problems.
