Entrepreneurship is gaining importance daily and solves many economy-related
problems, such as unemployment. Entrepreneurial Intentions are crucial to commence
a new venture, but there is limited understanding of their cognitive antecedents. This
study intends to dimensionalize Cognitive flexibility and analyze the influence of cognitive
flexibility and its dimensions on entrepreneurial intentions among university students
of Punjab. Furthermore, the study also attempts to explore the role of demographics in
shaping the intentions. The study sample included 500 students from different
departments, courses, and disciplines enrolled in 2 public universities and two private
universities of Punjab based on the NIRF (National Institute Ranking Framework) ranking
2024. Based on the Cognitive Flexibility Scale designed by Martin and Rubin (1995),
the Entrepreneurial Intention Scale by Linan and Chen (2009), and using CFA
(confirmatory factor analysis), the result showed that self-efficacy and willingness show
significant loading on cognitive flexibility. It was also perceived that the higher the
cognitive flexibility, the higher the entrepreneurial intentions. This study proposes a
model for training students to adapt to the environment so that the level of entrepreneurship
increases. The present endeavor will be helpful to various researchers, scholars, and
academia. This will finally speed up the country’s comprehensive economic growth
and progress.
