This article introduces the newly defined concept of attachment injury, which occurs when
one partner breaches the trust and expectation of support and care from their significant
other during times of vulnerability or distress. The paper systematically summarizes the
current understanding of how specific incidents can have a profound impact on romantic
relationships, leading to emotional, cognitive, behavioural, and stress-related physical
health consequences for the betrayed partners. By delving into the intricacies of this
trauma or attachment injury, the study sheds light on the far-reaching implications of these
experiences, affecting various aspects of an individual’s life, including sleep patterns,
appetite, academic or work performance, relationships with family and friends, and
perceptions of their significant other. The study identifies seven key themes, including
the underlying causes and the multifaceted consequences of attachment injury
